Find out moreOur solution is a patented TPRD with brazing alloy that ensures uniform pressure relief and safety at low tank pressure in CNG and H₂ valves.
As part of a joint development project with Volkswagen, mesa parts faced the challenge of designing a reliable thermally activated pressure relief device (TPRD) for use in CNG and hydrogen valves. A particular focus was placed on using a solder alloy as the triggering element. Existing systems showed that, in the event of activation, pressure relief did not occur evenly but rather in uncontrolled surges—posing a safety risk that needed to be eliminated.
To address this challenge, mesa parts initially developed several technical concepts, which were implemented in multiple functional prototypes and thoroughly tested. The most promising concept was then realized as a prototype and further developed to series production readiness. The solution features a patented system by mesa parts that not only ensures uniform pressure relief but also reliably activates even at very low tank pressures. Optimization for series production and full compliance with all specifications in the requirements document rounded off this successful project.
"Technical discussions with (mesa) competitors are not on this level. The TPRD triggering behavior is excellent."
